Books Arriving on Foot: A Heartfelt Delivery in Vila Khasa
As part of the Kreskanta Foundation’s "Books for All" initiative, we witnessed a profoundly moving day in the community of Vila Khasa, nestled within Torotoro Municipality. This was not merely a delivery of books and a small bookshelf to the local school—it was an act of faith in education, in the transformative power of reading, and in the potential of even the most overlooked corners of the world.
No roads or public services reach this secluded school. The only way in is on foot. We walked alongside generous community members and cheerful children, whose small but determined hands carried books and steadied the bookshelf along the rugged path. Though the distance was short, the terrain proved arduous—a daily journey these children endure with quiet resilience, a testament to their unwavering commitment to learning.
Inside the school, we found a humble, rain-stained classroom brimming with vitality. There, a tireless teacher—armed with scant resources but boundless dedication—cultivates knowledge daily through creativity, love, and a profound bond with her students. This connection, palpable and profound, reaffirms that true education blossoms from the heart.
The community welcomed us with overwhelming warmth: homemade lemonade, noodle soup simmered over a wood fire, and, above all, open hearts. The children proudly shared their world—Quechua songs, heartfelt poems, recycled-material crafts, and even a handmade paper chessboard. Each gesture whispered the same truth: the thirst for learning outshines even the harshest circumstances.
The experience left us deeply moved. While the material poverty weighed heavy, the indomitable spirit of the school uplifted us. In every child, a spark of ambition flickers; in every devoted teacher, an unyielding flame; in every act of communal solidarity, a seed of hope for tomorrow.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the Torotoro District Education Directorate for their invaluable support, and to Filimón, a community leader and guide, who bridged connections with parents awaiting us along the trail. Their collective effort made this "delivery on foot" possible.
This journey reminded us that books do more than teach literacy—they unlock worlds, ignite dreams, and plant the roots of change. We renew our pledge to every child in remote corners who dares to dream of a brighter future.
We will keep carrying books where they’re needed most. Because wherever a child waits for a story, opportunity waits too.
