Books on the Hill: A Hope in Laguna
The visit to the Laguna Educational Unit will remain etched in our memories as an encounter where simplicity blended with the strength of the desire to learn. At the top of a hill, where the cold wind constantly blows and the geography imposes its harshness, the children climb each day to meet with Professor Elías. With admirable enthusiasm, he manages to keep his students motivated, adapting to the limitations they face: interrupted connectivity, scarce resources, and factors that hinder the normal development of classes.
On this occasion, we were able to arrive with a small batch of books and a simple piece of furniture that now has a special place in the school. The donation, although modest, was received with moving gratitude, because in these spaces, books become a window to distant worlds, a spark of hope, and an ally of dreams that refuse to fade.
Our deepest gratitude goes to the Torotoro National Park Office, whose constant support makes it possible for this small library to expand its reach to communities like Laguna. We also thank the Torotoro District Education Directorate, which always provides us with the necessary permits and contacts to reach these hard-to-reach schools, reminding us that education is built on community.
Finally, our sincere thanks to Marie Relet, Malte, and Lara, whose donation made this donation possible. Their gesture of solidarity is a reminder that human bonds, even from a distance, can ignite hope in the coldest and most remote corners.
The experience in Laguna invites reflection: there are children in the most remote parts of Bolivia who eagerly await learning, who walk under the icy wind with the certainty that each day of study brings them a little closer to a different future. Their teachers, with silent dedication, fight adversity so that knowledge can flourish even where it seems impossible.
We leave moved. Because in every smile of those children, we understood, once again, that reading is not a luxury or a privilege, but a right that must reach every corner.
