Reading as a driver of change: our work

Education is a fundamental human right, enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and reinforced by the Convention on the Rights of the Child. However, in many regions of the world, this right faces colossal challenges. According to UNESCO data, 244 million children and young people lack access to education, while 617 million do not have basic reading and math skills. This reality prevents millions of people from breaking out of the cycle of poverty and limits their potential to contribute to the development of their communities.

In this context, to close these gaps in the most remote corners of Bolivia. Founded with the aim of promoting reading and access to basic education, the organization has committed to bringing books, educational workshops and learning opportunities to hard-to-reach communities in northern Potosí.

Education for sustainable development

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development places education at the heart of its goals, highlighting its importance in building inclusive, equal and sustainable societies. Sustainable Development Goal 4 calls for ensuring quality, equitable and inclusive education for all, something Kreskanta has embraced as part of its mission.

In rural Bolivian communities, lack of educational infrastructure, geographic isolation and poverty are recurring barriers. In response, Kreskanta is committed to not only creating reading corners but also organizing cultural activities and reading programs tailored to local needs. These efforts seek to inspire children, youth and adults to discover the transformative power of reading as a lifelong learning tool.

Innovation in reading promotion

Kreskanta implements strategies to overcome the logistical challenges of working in hard-to-reach areas and to reach communities that would otherwise be left out of access to knowledge. It has also strengthened alliances with local institutions and volunteers, multiplying the impact of its initiatives.

One of the projects is the creation of reading spaces in rural schools, where children can explore stories that not only entertain, but also educate and motivate. These spaces will be complemented by workshops that encourage critical thinking, creativity and a love of learning, aligning with the vision of guaranteeing inclusive educational opportunities for all.

Commitment to the future

As UNESCO points out, without quality and equitable education, it will not be possible to break the cycle of poverty that traps millions of people.

On International Education Day, we remember that education is a collective responsibility. From its corner in the north of Potosí, Kreskanta reaffirms its commitment to bring reading and learning to those who need it most, demonstrating that every small effort can make a difference in the fight for a more equitable world.
